Gaze, during the giving of directions

Gaze is an effective function of a conversation. Different functions of gaze are described in literature over the world. During a route description the presence of gaze is also clearly visible. The behavior of gaze however seems different then in a normal conversation. Through a literature study and the analysis of route description movies, some clear observations are visible. The gaze behavior seems largely influenced by the occurrence of an utterance or point period, especially at the start and stop of both periods. Using the analysis and some exact values gathered through annotation of the movies, a model could be made that predicts the gaze behavior during the giving of directions of the direction giver. The model should be able to be implemented in an ECA and let that ECA give a more natural route description to a person then tested without the model implemented.
